Who are the Emerald City Supporters?
Emerald City Supporters are a group of independent supporters of top
level soccer in Seattle. In the coming 2008 season that means supporting
the Seattle Sounders who play in USL Division 1. Our aim is to support
our team and to create a good atmosphere in the stadium.
What happens
when MLS comes to town?
Emerald City Supporters will always support top level soccer in Seattle.
We will get behind the new MLS club. Our plan is to move to the south
end of Qwest Field. The vision is that the ECS becomes an umbrella
organization that incorporates supporter subgroups of all persuasions.
How do I join
the ECS?
Easy. During the season just show up in our section (currently 113
at Qwest Field) or pre-game beers and festivities at Fuel (located
at 164 S Washington St just three blocks north from Qwest Field).
During the off-season, sign up on our discussion forum and attend
one of the off-season events that will be announced there.
Can I bring
my kids to your section?
The supporters section is probably not the best place for young kids
- but would be okay if they can handle colorful language and folks
jovially drinking and singing.
Do I have to
pay dues for joining?
No. In the future we may start collecting voluntary dues. In that
case those who have paid dues will get a discount for road trips,
clothing (scarves, shirts, etc), and reduced cost in the ECS FC. There
will be a list of perks for paying members sometime in the future.
Where can I
get a scarf?
All the information on scarves can be found in our Gear
section.
Where do you
get the flags?
The flags we use are the Sierra Leone country flags. They can be purchased
at any flag store or online. We have also made some of our flags and
two pole banners ourselves.
Do I have to
sing in the ECS section?
Not necessarily, but you will most likely end up wanting to sing anyway.
We encourage you to come to our section and see for yourself if you're
going to like it. It is also okay to stand or sit next to us so that
you can enjoy the atmosphere. A lot of people do this at first and
then move to our section, already knowing all our songs.
Where can I
get lyrics to your songs?
You can find lyrics to our songs in our Songs
section. There you will also find a printable version of the song
sheet.
What's Tifo?
Tifo is short for the Italian word tifosi, meaning supporter. It’s
used as a general term to describe flags, banners, confetti, balloons,
paper rolls, smoke, flares, scarves, and any display that supports
your club. We encourage everyone to make and bring tifo to the match.
For the big matches we sometimes make bigger displays or choreographies
in a more organized fashion.
Do I have to
drink to be in the ECS?
Absolutely not. Though most of the ECS like to drink before, during,
and after the game, it is definitely not required to be a part of
the ECS. It is however required that you bring the noise and the color!
