A Statement on the Club World Cup

ECS stands, as always, behind our players, who at today’s match reiterated their demand for a fairer share of the prize money due the team at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Participation in this tournament serves to further the goals of MLS and league ownership, at the expense of player health and well-being. The tournament will increase the physical load on players’ bodies, due to further congestion of the schedule. While the club will receive a guaranteed $9.5M even before performance bonuses, the players have been allocated a maximum of $1M of that money. As the workers upon whose labor the sport we love has been and continues to be built, we believe they are right to demand their fare share of the value they create. Without the players, there is no game.

Below is the MLS Player’s Association Statement, as well as a video of our players discussing their position.
