My journey into supporter-dom began at UC Santa Barbara with the Gaucho Locos. I knew very little about soccer, but I was totally taken in by the energy and creativity of the supporters who jumped, sang, waved scarves, and threw tortillas (it’s a whole thing) all match long. I lost touch with the soccer world for a while after I graduated, until a friend brought me to my first Sounders game. As soon as I heard ECS marching towards the stadium singing “Build A Bonfire,” the smoldering coals of my supporter’s passion burst back into full flame. From my seat behind the Sounders’ bench I had a perfect view of the Darkness to Dawn tifo display and could clearly hear the nonstop party in GA. I knew without a doubt that’s where I needed to be. I love being useful, so I quickly fell in with the tifo production and matchday crews. It’s been a great way to make friends with fellow supporters while making sure our love for the team is audible and visible from every seat in the stadium. I love showing family and friends pictures of all the flags and displays and saying “I helped make that happen!” If you want to experience that same joy, come find me at the front of 122. Look for blue hair and/or an elaborate 2-pole. I’d love to help you get involved!
